Through the looking glass with… Steve McMann

As part of our newest blog series, we put a different member of the Dortech Maintenance team in the hot-seat every month – asking 10 quick-fire questions about their role, personality and the world of commercial glazing, all in 10 minutes!

With not long on the clock, they have to be fast! First up, it’s the turn of our Senior Maintenance engineer, Steve…

Name: Steve McMann

Job title: Senior Maintenance Engineer

Describe working at Dortech in three words:
“Steve, fix this.”

Sum up your typical day in a sentence:
Travelling the length and breadth of the country, to inspect, investigate and diagnose aluminium glazing problems. I’ll include my findings in a step-by-step report when I get back to the office and recommend how to resolve the leak, faulty door or damaged window etc.

Some clients are more proactive and approach us for our help to roll out preventative maintenance plans. I wish we spent more time doing that, as it’s more cost effective and less disruptive for clients in the long run, but there’s still an education job to be done in the industry.

Are you an early bird or night owl?
Definitely an early bird, I always have been – I’m often on the road from 6am.

Your favourite Dortech project/site visit to date:
A glazing repairs project for the FA headquarters in Burton.

What’s your favourite driving song?
Can I pick two?

Foreigner, ‘I want to know what love is’ – you’ve got to love a power ballad! And Disclosure ft. Sam Smith, ‘Latch.’

What’s one item you couldn’t live without?
Hair gel.

Tea or coffee?
A latte in a morning and a Yorkshire Tea in the afternoon

Your favourite sandwich filling?
A true classic, tuna mayo.

How would your colleagues describe you in one word?
Technical.

If you weren’t a senior maintenance engineer, what would you like to be?
I’d make bespoke furniture from reclaimed materials.
